Hawaii Baptist Academy is moving on to the championship round, after defeating Kauai High School and Kamehameha School in the semi-final round of It's Academic, a quiz show featuring local high school students. On Sunday's episode, the team finished with a score of 430. Kamehameha finished with 390, and Kauai with 290.

"It was a tough round. We competed against two really good teams, who all deserved a chance to go to the championship round," said Chase Higa, team captain.

Higa, who is a senior, has competed on It's Academic for three consecutive years. This is the first time that the team has advanced to the state championship.

"We're really excited that we're going to the championship! This will be our first time, so we get to make history for our school," said Higa.

Returning to the final round with Higa will be Dylan Tsuruda, senior, and Joel Lau, junior. Both Tsuruda and Lau have been members of the It's Academic team for the last two years. Michael Hu, science department chair, and Maurine King, retired social studies teacher, coach the team. Lucas Chun, junior, is the team's alternate.

You can watch a rebroadcast of the semi-final round on Saturday, May 28 at 3:30 p.m. on K5. The championship episode airs Sunday, June 11 at 7 p.m. on K5.
