Academics

Our counselors work closely with our faculty and parents to discover specific needs and learning styles for students with academic difficulties. Through evaluation of classroom performance, test scores, observation and consultation with the student’s teacher(s), the counselor makes recommendations to the student, parent, teacher(s) and principal. The counselor provides support to the student through counseling and works with the teacher and parents to insure that the students receive the necessary assistance.

Elementary School

The counselor oversees all testing at Hawaii Baptist Academy. The Comprehensive Testing Program (CTPIV) is administered to students in grades 2- 6 in the fall of each year. A writing assessment (WrAP) is also administered to students in grades 3-6 during the fall. Grade K and grade 1 students are assessed in reading and math skills in the fall, winter, and spring using the Children’s Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA).

All test results are used to help teachers meet the individual needs of their students as well as provide direction for overall class instruction and curriculum planning.

Middle School

Early in the school year, seventh graders are tested using the Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP4) while the 8th graders are administered the EXPLORE™. Parents and students are notified of the testing results. Students experiencing academic difficulties are counseled and monitored through interim and academic progress reports.

High School

Counselors meet with students individually to monitor and discuss their academic progress. Standardized tests relative to grade levels are administered, and results of standardized tests are shared with students and their parents.

Students experiencing academic difficulties are monitored through interims and academic progress reports. Counselors work with the student, teachers and parents to address academic difficulties.
